Old Elizabethans Match Report
Having been beaten by 9 wickets last year Old Elizabethans fielded a side with just two changes from last year which resulted in the same result - a win for Myddelton by nine wickets. OE's won the toss and decided to bat. Brad opened the bowling from the clubhouse end and seemed surprised when his first ball was smashed back at him for a c&b chance. Having put it down, was even more suprised when the second ball was smashed past mid off for four. Brad finished with 1-11 off four overs with a devastating spell at the other end of 6-1-13-2 by Fitzy, who has been Anuj's first choice opener for most of the games in which he has been Captain. Fitzy beat the bat of opener Mackman on numerous occasions and had Vadgama, last years tormenter of Sameer caught at mid on by Anuj and clean bowled Khotari before being taken off after a top six over spell. Alan and Terry were far too good for the oppo although only Terry managed a wicket as the straight ones were kept out and the others beat the bat. John replaced Terry after 8 overs and Mark came on for Alan. John was expensive going for 48 runs in his 8 overs but on another day could have had wickets galore as the ball landed between, or just short of fielders so many times that we lost count and John decided not to trust the fielders anymore and had Da Silva stumped by Rohan. OE's finished on 148-9 from their 40 overs.
Last year chasing 154 Brad and Rohan put on151 for the second wicket to win by 9 wickets. This time it was slightly different as Rohan and Mark went off at better than 8 an over until, in the 13th over Mark missed a high full toss and was bowled for 44, Rohan had passed 50. Mark has found form over the last couple of weeks, good news with a potentially tough last game at Chingford this week. Rohan continued on to an unbeaten 77 and Brad with 24 off 9 balls in a partnership of 49 in 4 overs showed that the bowling was not quite up to it. Rohan passed 500 runs in a season for the first time and as with Mark has found his best form towards the end of the season with two 50's and a 49 in his last three innings.
