Chipperfield Match Report

It was a dismal day with rain in the air most of the day and in fact quite heavy rain fell during the second innings. Sameer having been heard to say "they wont make 80 if i win the toss and field" was, as were one or two others, surprised at how well this wicket played. Rohan and Ken openened the batting with Rohan continuing where he left off last week hitting big straight boundaries and Ken taking plenty of singles to get Rohan back on strike. Ken was run out in the 11th over with the score on 47, better than 4 an over, a good start. Brad joined Rohan and both players went along at a steady rate 0f almost six an over before Rohan departed to a good return catch to bowler Leach. With 23 overs of our 35 gone and 220 plus looking likely with Lee and Sameer to follow, Mark joined Brad and together they put on 133 by the end of the 35 overs, Mark finishing 38 not out and Brad 119 not out (Brad passed 1000 runs for the season when he reached his century). Both playing some good shots and Brad in particular playing quite a few big (for him) cross batted shots through mid wicket. Mark played the shot of the day, a square cut to the boundary off Leach. Myddelton finished on 246-2.
Chipperfield started well taking 17 off Sameer's four overs and 36 off Fitzy's six overs although Fitzy did take a wicket, that of opener Wicks. But that was the highlight of their innings as a catalogue of poor shots off decent bowling and dreadfull running, saw Chipperfield all out for 107. Lee replaced Sameer and bowled surprisingly well as he twice uprooted the off stump and should have had a third wicket, a stumping which was given not out by the square leg umpire Wicks who was probably still upset after being caught at mid off earlier. The batsman, with Rohan standing up took his guard outside the front crease line and Rohan collecting the ball nicely removed the bails and as the bails hit the floor the batsman moved his back foot into the crease, he was a mile out, but in fairness to the umpire standing a full 30 yards away he probably was blinded by the sun!!! Lee bowled his full 7 overs and John at the other end took two c&b's on his way to a deserved four wickets. This is John's best season so far having taken 27 wickets to date. Alan got a belated call to bowl and managed a wicket in his only over bowling Hewson for a duck. Brad and Alan combined with Rohan to create a run out, Alan making a good stop in the covers and Brad, picking up the rebound threw to the keeper and Rohan took the bails off with the batsman still a yard out. Sameer's pick up and direct hit at the bowlers end finished the innings off and just about summed up Chipperfields day.
A special thank you must be made to Rohan who tops the fines list this year with £7
Top 5 Fines payers this season... Rohan £7,Lee £6.50, Terry £6, Arthur £5.50 & Anuj £5
