Capital Wanderers Match Report
Sameer and Anuj opened the bowling and both began well, Sameer in particular looking pretty lively. Usman was caught behind by Rohan off Sameer and Nadeem was clean bowled by Anuj. Zaheer and Waseem built a useful partnership but "Golden Arm" John Nelson bowled Zaheer and then had Waseem caught at mid-off by Anuj. John has an amazing knack of getting good batsmen out and both of these wickets came at a time when MHCC were in need of a wicket. Amad became John's 3rd victim, caught by Lee at mid-on. Alan was by now bowling at the other end and unusually was getting a bit of tap square of the wicket. His nine over spell cost 47 runs, more then five an over, very rare indeed for AL. Terry replaced Alan and took 3 of thelast four wickets to fall, while John added his fourth wicket before, in his 12th over had his 5th wicket snatched from his grasp as sub Mark Bateman dropped what for Mark was a fairly simple chance at mid wicket pushing the ball over the boundary for six. A four off the last ball of the over saw John removed by Sameer and the innings came to an end two overs later with Terry having Faisal caught by Anuj.
Chasing a victory target of 188 Ken and Lee were asked to open the innings Ken gloving a rising delivery to be caught behind off the third ball of the innings for a first ball duck and Lee edged to the keeper a couple of overs later. Rohan having had back to back 50's found himself relegated to number 4, joined Brad with a decent partnership needed. It was Sameer and Rohan who supplied that partnership, after Brad, trotting a third was run out at the bowlers end as first slip gathered the throw from the boundary to throw down the bowlers end stumps with Brad still a couple of yards out. The partnership was 49 with good running and some fine shots, in particular Rohan's three off drive from the bowling of Kashi. Sameer was at his best as he reached his first half century of the season but on the way he lost Rohan 23, Anuj 0, Phil 1, Alan for a first ball duck and Arthur 2 leaving Terry to help Sameer save the game but Sameer checked his lofted drive off Kashi and was caught at mid off giving Kashi his 5th wicket. John was caught in the next over and Myddelton were all out for 123, a loss by 64 runs.
Phil Anderson, in attempting a running catch split and broke a finger and will be missing for a few weeks.
