Club Day - Red XI v Black XI

After the success of the 125 Celebration match at Enfield CC last summer it was decided to put aside one Sunday (7th August) to have an inter club match at Old Owens. The two sides were captained by club captain Sameer Patel (Red XI) and vice-captain Anuj Bhardwaj (Black XI). With two last minute withdrawals we played a ten aside match. Sameer won the toss and elected to bat.
The Red XI was made up as follows - Sameer, Mark, Lee, Amit Naik, David Brown, Alan, John, Jeff and Glenn Wilson son of Paul who in playing become the fifth generation of the Wilson family to play for the club. The Black XI was, Anuj, Rohan, Mark Stevens, Steve Graham, Pug, Paul Wilson, Brad, Darshan Naik, Fitzy and Terry. Challenges had been set up by Anuj and Sameer. The first was Terry bowling to Mark but this did not arise as Mark was unfortunately given out to an Lbw decision second ball of the match. Brad and Sameer was the most talked about challenge with Brad coming out on top in the first innings - just - having Sameer caught by Anuj at mid wicket, and Sameer Taking care of business in the second by having Brad caught behind by Lee. Both players ended the game nursing bruises from each others bowling. Sameer and Rohan was another with Sameer coming out on top again after Ro left a delivery on length expecting it to bounce over the top of off stump but instead taking off stump out of the ground. A nice moment now and the sort of thing that the day was all about as Glenn Wilson came to the wicket and dad Paul was brought on to bowl. "Have a couple to hit son" - Paul was having none of that as he ripped out Glenn's middle stump apologising as Glenn trudged off dragging his bat behind him. Just joking Wils. Anuj bowled all ten of his players including wicket keeper Rohan as Anuj took the gloves. Sameer on the other hand, bowled just five bowlers as Sameer's opening burst took care of Ro, Steve and Pug. The Black XI were all out for 80 in 22.3 chasing Red's 145, so Sameer really didn't have time to bowl anyone else although he would probably have taken himself off at 16-4 if Brad hadn't been next to the wicket. There were some useful individual performances with the bat - Lee 27, David Brown 27, Sameer 22, Amit 19, Mark Stevens 32 and Anuj 31. With the ball Fitzy 2-38, Brad 2-23, Sameer 4-11 and Jeff Hecker, making a welcome return after injury, 2-3.

A 20 Twenty match or rather 15 Fifteen match was hastily arranged and Sameer's Red XI won this as well. Glenn Wilson bowled two overs including a maiden, Ken took 1-10, Lee took 2-13 as the Black XI made 89 from 15 overs. In reply the Red XI made the runs in 14 overs.
The day ended with a few beers and Anuj managing to raise £7 in "nonsense fines".

Same again next year??
