Old Esthameians Match Report
Sameer won the toss and decided to bat. Mark Bateman and former MHCC player Mark Stevens became the 9th opening partnership in the nine games played so far. Shagger was bowled in the fifth over drivng at Roberts from the pavilion end. Brad joined Batty already on 13 and both players were soon in control against openers who gave a little too much room to both players on a track that was bouncing a bit giving both batsmen the chance to get on the back foot whenever they wanted. The partnership was worth 139 when Brad was bowled off the last ball of Jay's first over having been unable to reach any of the others. Brad made 76 and Mark continued on, although now was in some pain from his tennis elbow. Lee joined Mark and these two continued the good start and Mark completed his 100 in the 38th over. Then, after a mix up with Lee he was run out in the next over. Captain Patel strode to the crease looking for quick runs and as usual showed no respect for the bowling in hitting 21 in 3.2 overs, before holing out at deep mid-wicket. Lee finished unbeaten on 29 having batted well with a glorious drive along the floor through mid-wicket, the highlight of his innings. Myddelton finished on 264-4 in 42 overs.
Sameer took the first wicket with a c&b disposing of Roberts. Nuj found Spencers favourite shot early on and continued to bowl to his strength in his last over going for 16 before Sameer brought on John. With Rohan on holiday Brad stood in as wkt keeper and took two decent stumpings off Alan but also missed two catches off the variable bounce of Alan's quicker ball. John became the first bowler this year to take five wickets in a match twice this year and bowled some absolute "bannana" deliveries which had Spencer reaching for the angling times before finaly offering up a c&b for John's fourth wicket. John's fifth wicket came when he clean bowled Owen and Lee finished off the innings with the first run out for a Myddelton player this year. Old Esthameians were all out for 174 in 38 overs.
