Bamville Match Report

Dice Man Runs Out Of Dot's

Having reeled off 10 succesive maidens in his last two games "dot ball" Bateman was asked to partner Sameer for the opening spell of this 40 overs match. The run of maidens came to an end just three balls into his spell as Bamville's openers Harrison and Denny made a steady start with "happy hooker" Harrison pulling Sameer through square leg before pulling a hamstring a few balls later and calling for a runner. Sameer thought the best way to check if he was in pain was to bowl another short one. The happy hooker pulled again with no sign of a bad leg before starting to limp again after the next ball. Dave Fitzgerald, Myddeltons secret weapon came on and disposed of Harrison with his first ball. The batsman, nearly bamboozled, by this delivery said as he walked off the pitch, "i cant carry on without coming down the wicket to this stuff", he walked off retired injured. Nice bowling change skip. Fitzy completley tied up Pec and Oliver with his swinging, looping deliveries, bowling well without taking a wicket. Nuj replaced Terry (1-33) and bowled the best over of the day in his best spell of the season and off his infamous short run too!! Alan bowled well at the other end and apart from a couple of fours bowled his usual tight spell. As seems to happen every other week for someone in the club, Alan had a caught behind descision not given and having just pushed mid-off back 10 yards saw Mark at mid-off drop a catch off the next ball. Mark finished the game with more injuries than ""Sicknote" Anderton.
Myddelton's reply, chasing Bamville's 142-8, began well with Brad and Lee putting on 55 before Lee holed out at point. Rohan played himself in by hitting Quinton over mid-on for two. Was this the result of an offer of £10 from the watching , soon to bat MHCC players for Rohan hitting a six first ball? Who know's? Rohan tried the shot again two overs later and was caught for just 3. New guy Phil Anderson came to the crease and hadn't faced a ball before Brad was bowled off his pads off a ball that kept low. Sameer looked good as usual during his innings of 27 which included a 'tap' over extra cover, over the club house, over the trees and half way across the golf course onto the St. Albans road!! Sameer was caught and bowled by Oliver trying to pull. Phill took control for a while hitting two fours before being bowled for a usfull 14. Anuj and Alan saw Myddelton home with Alan's on drive for 3 the winning shot leaving Anuj still without the honour of hitting the winning runs in any match.
