Walthamstow - Buck Lane
A match report by Rohan Patel
What always looked like being a gentle warm-up for the forthcoming Myddelton House - Roydon grudge match, turned out to be exactly that when Walthamstow's "2nd XI did it's best to redefine the word "shower"on sunday. Coming off the back of a disappointing defeat the previous week Myddelton got back to winning ways with a 10 wicket victory.
The sun was shining and the wicket looked interesting to say the least as the two captains tossed up. Having confessed to having a weak team, it was a suprise to MHCC Captain Sameer Patel when on winning the toss Walthamstow's captain elected to bat. Was it the old double bluff? Sadly not. Wickets fell regularly with a solid 43 from the Walthamstow number 3 the only resistance,Terry "192" Bateman continued to roll back the years taking 3-12, John "banana Man" Nelson bowled well without joy and Brad Williams finished things off with his unplayable mix of seam and spin. Special mention to captain Patel who rather than putting pressure on one of his charges to bowl at the death took the responsibility upon himself to do the job for his team.... and try and bag a couple of 10 year old's wickets in the process.
Walthamstow's 86 all out may have seamed an easy target but it had one particular Myddelton batsman thinking it would take a little bit of getting on a tricky pitch. Alas , that batsman kept his legs warm for the 16.3 overs that it took openers Rohan Patel and guest Amit Naik to knock off the runs. Rohan got off to a flyer with two glorious fours in the first over, racing to 30 in no time. The runs and quality shots dried up but Amit was on hand to keep up the pace, finding his rythmn with some nice fours in a chanceless 34 not out.
With victory achieved thought turned to seven days time and the trip into enemy territory. The match against Roydon will surely be more of a test for Myddelton House but it can also be guaranteed that every single player donning the red and black will be aware of the history and importance surrounding this massive fixture and will be ready for the fight.

Walthamstow Sun B v Myddelton House Sun 8th May at 2:00pm, Home - Buck Walk
Match lostUnfortunately, a very much under-strength Bs side were soundly beaten by a decent bunch of lads from Enfield way. Having lost most of the side to Otis's "1st 11," only Richard Gymer managed to make any impact with the bat, scoring 46. We failed to take a wicket despite Paul Tate's excellent spell and a special thanks to Robert, Pat and Matt for coming into the side at such short notice and putting in an all round tremendous effort.
