Chingford Match Report

Rohan and Mark continued where they left off last week as they built another 100 partnership. Following last weeks effort of 107 in 13 overs they reached 117 in 21 overs before rohan was caught off the bowling of Shawyer. Rohan made 58, his third score over 50 in the last four weeks of the season separated by 49 at Chipperfield. Mark too has found form towards the end of the season with 38*, 44 and 53 this weekend. Mark was out in the 27th over and Brad followed in the 30th for 25, the first of 8 wickets too fall for just 36 runs. Both Brad and Lee were caught at mid off, Sameer was allegedly caught at the wicket, although Sameer was the only one in the ground who didn't think he had hit it and was from that point known as Goochie. Ken followed the trend set earlier by pushing the ball to mid off, Arthur and Alan were bowled and Terry was plumb lbw, while Fitzy faced just one ball at the end of the penultimate over leaving Anuj to finish off the useful cameo he had begun at the fall of the 5th wicket. Anuj pulled one delivery through mid wicket that was at the point of impact about two foot outside off stump, he was to be caught at mid wicket playing the same shot in the last over. Anuj had made 21 of the last 30 runs of our innings. MHCC finished on 194 from 39.3 overs.
Chingford skipper Thorne was heard to say that we did not have enough runs and that he and wicket keeper P. Shawyer would drop down the order to give one or two others a chance to bat. Well, they certainly got the chance to bat as Sameer held onto a sharp chance at silly mid off from Anuj's first over and Mark held onto a catch of the season candidate at backward point, with a full length diving, two handed catch off a long hop from Sameer, which mirrored Lee's effort on the same ground, in the same position earlier in the season. Brad then bowled John Woodland, and then with a stunning direct hit run out Brad sent Fernando back to the changing room without facing a ball. Peek was bowled by Brad, Terry bowled Taylor and Brad took a steepling catch to remove the dangerous Joslin off Terry's bowling. Terry bowled Smethurst, then as Sameer licked his lips and started to loosen up Terry had 8 year old Dan Lawrence caught by Brad. Sorry Sam. Terry bowled P. Shawyer and the match was over, Chingford all out for 91 with 12 overs of their 40 remaining. Brad was made man of the match for his alround performance but there were several outstanding performances including Mark and Rohan for their 50's and 100 partnership, Terry's five wickets, Mark's outstanding catch and Anuj's 21 along with his top bowling spell of 8-5-11-1 The season ended at Chingford where we will spend most Tuesday's during the winter months netting until the start of next season.

Old Elizabethans Match Report

Having been beaten by 9 wickets last year Old Elizabethans fielded a side with just two changes from last year which resulted in the same result - a win for Myddelton by nine wickets. OE's won the toss and decided to bat. Brad opened the bowling from the clubhouse end and seemed surprised when his first ball was smashed back at him for a c&b chance. Having put it down, was even more suprised when the second ball was smashed past mid off for four. Brad finished with 1-11 off four overs with a devastating spell at the other end of 6-1-13-2 by Fitzy, who has been Anuj's first choice opener for most of the games in which he has been Captain. Fitzy beat the bat of opener Mackman on numerous occasions and had Vadgama, last years tormenter of Sameer caught at mid on by Anuj and clean bowled Khotari before being taken off after a top six over spell. Alan and Terry were far too good for the oppo although only Terry managed a wicket as the straight ones were kept out and the others beat the bat. John replaced Terry after 8 overs and Mark came on for Alan. John was expensive going for 48 runs in his 8 overs but on another day could have had wickets galore as the ball landed between, or just short of fielders so many times that we lost count and John decided not to trust the fielders anymore and had Da Silva stumped by Rohan. OE's finished on 148-9 from their 40 overs.
Last year chasing 154 Brad and Rohan put on151 for the second wicket to win by 9 wickets. This time it was slightly different as Rohan and Mark went off at better than 8 an over until, in the 13th over Mark missed a high full toss and was bowled for 44, Rohan had passed 50. Mark has found form over the last couple of weeks, good news with a potentially tough last game at Chingford this week. Rohan continued on to an unbeaten 77 and Brad with 24 off 9 balls in a partnership of 49 in 4 overs showed that the bowling was not quite up to it. Rohan passed 500 runs in a season for the first time and as with Mark has found his best form towards the end of the season with two 50's and a 49 in his last three innings.

Chipperfield Match Report

It was a dismal day with rain in the air most of the day and in fact quite heavy rain fell during the second innings. Sameer having been heard to say "they wont make 80 if i win the toss and field" was, as were one or two others, surprised at how well this wicket played. Rohan and Ken openened the batting with Rohan continuing where he left off last week hitting big straight boundaries and Ken taking plenty of singles to get Rohan back on strike. Ken was run out in the 11th over with the score on 47, better than 4 an over, a good start. Brad joined Rohan and both players went along at a steady rate 0f almost six an over before Rohan departed to a good return catch to bowler Leach. With 23 overs of our 35 gone and 220 plus looking likely with Lee and Sameer to follow, Mark joined Brad and together they put on 133 by the end of the 35 overs, Mark finishing 38 not out and Brad 119 not out (Brad passed 1000 runs for the season when he reached his century). Both playing some good shots and Brad in particular playing quite a few big (for him) cross batted shots through mid wicket. Mark played the shot of the day, a square cut to the boundary off Leach. Myddelton finished on 246-2.
Chipperfield started well taking 17 off Sameer's four overs and 36 off Fitzy's six overs although Fitzy did take a wicket, that of opener Wicks. But that was the highlight of their innings as a catalogue of poor shots off decent bowling and dreadfull running, saw Chipperfield all out for 107. Lee replaced Sameer and bowled surprisingly well as he twice uprooted the off stump and should have had a third wicket, a stumping which was given not out by the square leg umpire Wicks who was probably still upset after being caught at mid off earlier. The batsman, with Rohan standing up took his guard outside the front crease line and Rohan collecting the ball nicely removed the bails and as the bails hit the floor the batsman moved his back foot into the crease, he was a mile out, but in fairness to the umpire standing a full 30 yards away he probably was blinded by the sun!!! Lee bowled his full 7 overs and John at the other end took two c&b's on his way to a deserved four wickets. This is John's best season so far having taken 27 wickets to date. Alan got a belated call to bowl and managed a wicket in his only over bowling Hewson for a duck. Brad and Alan combined with Rohan to create a run out, Alan making a good stop in the covers and Brad, picking up the rebound threw to the keeper and Rohan took the bails off with the batsman still a yard out. Sameer's pick up and direct hit at the bowlers end finished the innings off and just about summed up Chipperfields day.
A special thank you must be made to Rohan who tops the fines list this year with £7
Top 5 Fines payers this season... Rohan £7,Lee £6.50, Terry £6, Arthur £5.50 & Anuj £5

Bengeo Match Report

Bengeo, having been soundly beaten last season put out a far stronger side which resulted in Myddelton's third consecutive defeat. All began well with Sameer and Anuj taking 3 quick wickets for just 18 runs in 15 overs. Unfortunately batsmen 4 and 5, allrounders Groves (herts league division 3 player) and Ruskin put on over a 100 for the next wicket with shots all round the park. First Anuj suffered and was removed from the attack then Sameer removed himself from the attack bringing on John and Terry, both going for 30 from their 6 and 7 overs respectively. The partnership had reached 107 when Brad in his second over bowled Graves with a big turning off spinner and soon after tossed one up with a little turn and deceived Ruskin bowling him leg stump. Sameer brought himself back on to finsh the overs at the clubhouse end after Brad became expensive being pulled for three fours in a row and Sameer bowled Walker for 19. Shortly before this Sameer had dropped a simple chance at mid off from Alan's bowling with Ketteridge on 12 , he went on to make an unbeaten 37. Bengeo finished on 203-6
Myddelton's reply began with Mark and Rohan opening the innings. When the first wicket fell, that of Mark for 11, Brad joined Rohan and things were looking good. Rohan was hitting boundaries and Brad and then Sameer to come a victory was certainly within reach. Brad didn't last long though as he played an uncharacterisic shot early on and was caught at mid on. Sameer started well scoring 5 singles to keep Rohan on strike. Rohan played his best innings of the season so far but just 26 runs later Rohan was bowled by Guy and despite a spirited 25 by Anuj, Sameer (26) being bowled off his glove signalled the end of our victory chances as Lee was caught for 8 and John for 10. Alan, Ken and Fitzy perished for single figures leaving Terry stranded with an unbeaten 8 to his name although there may be some justice in this as it was Terry, having called yes left Fitzy stranded half way down the track to be run out by a top class direct hit from Graves at mid wicket. A third defeat in three games leaves Myddelton desperate to beat Chipperfield next weekend, a fixture we have only played twice in five years due to rain. Lets hope for a brighter result on a bright sunny day.
