Club News
Sameer Patel and Anuj Bhardwaj continue as captain and vice captain respectively. Brad Williams takes over as team secretary from Anuj who has taken over as club secretary from John Nelson who stood down at the AGM in November. John stands down after a successful year in which he organised two events to celebrate the clubs 125th anniversary. The first of which was an all day game played at Enfield C. C. between two teams made up of past and present players and friends of the club. The teams were captained by Sameer Patel (red team) and Mark Harding (black team) who is a former Myddelton captain and a leading light in the Enfield first team. The black team emerged victorious by two wickets thanks to an unbeaten century by Neill Shrimpton of Enfield C C. Terry Bateman took 5-68 in a 16 over spell for the black team including the wicket of Sameer who was stumped by his brother Rohan for just 5 runs. Tony Warren, a former MHCC player and still a regular on the clubs tour to Battle scored 52 before becoming one of two run out victims to the impressive fielding of Neill Shrimpton.
The second event was a dinner dance held at the Apollo Suite, Cockfosters in October. Guest speaker Mark Ilott formerly of Essex and England will be fondly remembered for his after dinner speach - the first he had made - but not so fondly remembered by one MHCC player who's bowling was dispatched to all parts - 48 runs in 5 overs in our first game of the season against the team Mark now plays for, Potters Bar. PB won the 45 overs match by 4 runs.
Both events were well attended and a good time was had by all.
Our thanks to John for his efforts in organising these events and more during his term as club secretary.
